Destin Daniel Cretton to Produce Sea of Thieves Movie
Sea of Thieves, Rare's multiplayer action-adventure set on the high seas, is being adapted into a movie. The game, which launched on Windows and Xbox One in 2018 and has been supported with ongoing content, lets players pursue pirate adventures, naval battles and treasure hunts either alone or with others.
Because Sea of Thieves lacks a traditional linear narrative, Xbox executive Matt Booty emphasizes that the player and the community function as the game's central characters. "The main character of a Sea of Thieves game is actually the player and the community," he said.
Destin Daniel Cretton is attached as a producer; his directing credits include Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Xbox says it has more than a dozen adaptations in development, with known projects including a Minecraft movie and sequel, a Minecraft animated series for Netflix, live-action and animated Gears of War entries, a Wolfenstein show, a new season of Fallout and a Fallout reality show.
