The latest installment of Toby Fox’s seven-part RPG saga Deltarune launched this week, delivering the series’ oddball humor, striking music and video game metacommentary. Chapter 5 follows Kris and Susie at Hometown’s annual festival and, in the main story, leads them into a new Dark World inside Asgore’s flower shop.

There is an alternate path — the so-called weird route — that appears in Chapters 2, 4 and 5. It begins when the player forces Noelle to defeat every enemy with her ice magic in Chapter 2. With equipment like the ThornRing, Noelle can learn the SnowGrave spell, the only magic described as doing "fatal damage," and the route ends that chapter with Kris compelling her to use it against classmate Berdly, an act that is strongly implied to be lethal.

Chapter 4 expanded that unsettling thread, including a private sequence that cuts to black as a red rose sheds petals and red lines fill the screen; the scene was quietly altered after the earlier chapter launches following player interpretation.
