Deltarune Chapter 5 throws Weird Route players a massive curveball

Deltarune Chapter 5 is out this week, and it contains a startling surprise for players who have pursued the game’s secret “Weird Route.” That route is difficult to discover, beginning in Chapter 2 by having Noelle freeze every enemy in the Dark World, answering her more brutally, equipping her with the Thorn Ring, and ending that chapter with Noelle sending Berdly to the hospital in the Light World.

If you continue the Weird Route through Chapter 4 and into Chapter 5, the festival sequence plays out strangely: Kris sleeps through it, resists as the player drags them out of bed, and then meets Noelle at the lake. Noelle begs the player to help her “do something crazy,” the pair walk into the water while the player repeatedly tells them to “Proceed,” the screen glitches to white, and the chapter ends on an ominous title screen.
