Death Stranding movie will not retell game, director says
The Death Stranding movie, first announced in 2022, is still in early development. Director Michael Sarnoski has said the film will not simply retell the game's story.
Sarnoski — who previously directed A Quiet Place: Day One — is writing the script and says he is almost finished. He describes the project as "a story with my own characters and my own corner of the world," while adding that viewers "might see some characters from the game pop up."
Production company A24 has read a draft and is working on revisions with Sarnoski; he says they seem "super excited and happy with it." Kojima also responded positively to the script, and, Sarnoski noted, "He just knows movies incredibly well."
A24 is also producing an Elden Ring movie that is currently filming and expected in 2028; several leaked set videos have appeared online, including footage that may depict a stand-in for Stormveil Castle.
