Michael Sarnoski confirmed he is working on a revision of the Death Stranding script and that the team now has a version ready to go. He described his current work as sharpening the writing and deepening the themes he wants to interconnect, and said Hideo Kojima and the rest of the team have already given their approval.

Sarnoski, who joined the project in April 2025, is crafting an original story set within Kojima’s world rather than directly translating Sam Porter Bridges’ journey. He plans to focus on new characters and to recreate the game’s strand-like feelings, emphasizing connection across space and time, isolation, expression and creativity.

The game follows Sam Porter Bridges, a courier traveling a bleak United States where a cataclysm has unleashed spectral creatures. As colonies grow increasingly isolated, he delivers supplies and helps build a communications network while evading a violent militia determined to wipe out the remnants of humanity.
