DDR5 RAM with integrated fans impresses at Computex
Cooler Master and G.Skill showed off DDR5 memory at Computex with tiny built-in fans mounted on the modules. What first sounded like a gimmick proved convincing on the show floor after a hands-on demonstration. A guide at Cooler Master's booth aimed a small smoke machine at the modules; the nearly silent fans cleared the smoke about a metre away, demonstrating surprisingly strong airflow from a compact design.
There are no extra cables or PWM connectors to fit — just slot the sticks into the DIMM slots and they begin moving air. Wider availability is limited. Ongoing global RAM shortages and the current spike in DDR5 prices mean the modules won’t be sold separately for the time being, and Cooler Master plans to include them in upcoming full system builds.
Cooling matters because, Cooler Master says, high-speed DDR5 can suffer thermal throttling and overclocked kits generate more heat than basic RGB heatsinks handle.
