DC Studios greenlights Absolute Batman series with Scott Snyder as showrunner

DC Studios and Warner Bros have greenlit an animated series based on the best-selling comic Absolute Batman, with Scott Snyder acting as showrunner. The comic, created by Snyder and Nick Dragotta, reimagines Bruce Wayne as a 24-year-old blue-collar civil engineer who still has one living parent.

This reimagining shifts several familiar elements: Alfred Pennyworth, who narrates the series, is an M16 agent; the Joker is a billionaire; and figures such as Catwoman, the Riddler and Killer Croc are childhood friends of Bruce. He grew up poor in Crime Alley, rather than in a mansion among affluent families.

The series was announced at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Festival alongside a Joker anime and another animated series based on Krypto the Super Dog, bringing the total to eight animated DC Studios projects including My Adventure With Green Lantern, Starfire!
