DC Studios' Gorilla Grodd HBO series will start filming this year

DC Studios' television output under James Gunn and Peter Safran has been eclectic, spanning Creature Commandos, Peacemaker, and the upcoming Lanterns. The DCU is getting even weirder: a still-untitled HBO series will put longtime Flash villain Gorilla Grodd front and center.

The project was originally described as focusing on Daily Planet photojournalist Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo in 2025's Superman, and was created by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda. Safran confirmed at the Supergirl premiere in Rio de Janeiro that the Jimmy Olsen/Gorilla Grodd project has become a "Gorilla Grodd show" and will start filming later this year.

He declined to confirm a new Justice League movie and said the studio is concentrating on announced projects: "Supergirl, Lanterns for HBO, Clayface this fall, Man of Tomorrow, The Batman Part 2, [and] we’re gonna do Brave and the Bold introducing Batman into the DCU.
