'Dawson's Creek' star Mary-Margaret Humes shares Father's Day tribute to James Van Der Beek
Mary-Margaret Humes looked back on fond memories with James Van Der Beek ahead of Father’s Day, captioning a Saturday Instagram post, “Wishing all of the amazing dads throughout this vast universe a Happy Father’s Day weekend.” The post included a throwback Dawson’s Creek poster featuring Humes with Van Der Beek and John Wesley Shipp.
“My advice? Give big meaningful hugs and tell them you love them … a shout-out to simpler times with @vanderjames @johnwesleyshippjr,” she wrote. Humes, Shipp, 71, and Van Der Beek had played a TV family, with Humes and Shipp portraying Dawson’s parents on the teen drama, which ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2003.
Van Der Beek was a father to six children — Olivia, Joshua, Annabel Leah, Emilia, Gwendolyn, and Jeremiah — all of whom he welcomed with his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek. The actor died in February after a battle with colorectal cancer. He was 48.
