Dark Shadows Reboot Announced as Animated Series

The drama series Dark Shadows is being rebooted as an animated series. The official logline reads, "Blending gothic, horror, and supernatural genres, this coming adaptation promises all the dark twists and romantic intrigue that defined the transformational series across its 1200-plus episode run." The original series delivered more than 1,200 episodes and centered on the affluent Collins family.

It began as a gothic-inspired daytime melodrama and gradually introduced vampires, werewolves, zombies and witches. Multiple attempts have been made to revive the property. In the early '90s, NBC developed a primetime revival, but network coverage of the Gulf War regularly impacted its broadcast and prevented the series from gaining traction.

The WB filmed a pilot in 2004 that was never picked up.
