Daniel Craig's casting in Netflix's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew suggests a clear break from his James Bond era. Craig served as the seventh actor to portray 007, wrapping up his time as the spy in 2021 with No Time to Die, and his new role as Andrew Ketterley, Digory Kirke's uncle, for Greta Gerwig's film has prompted fresh discussion.

The movie is set to debut in theaters in February 2027 before arriving on Netflix the following April. Uncle Andrew is a far cry from Craig's Bond persona: a pantomime-like villain who is over the top, eccentric, somewhat detached and cowardly. Craig has played antagonists before—he voiced villains in The Adventures of Tintin (2011) and played Connor Rooney in Road to Perdition—but this Narnia character is described as a whole new level and one of his strangest parts to date.

His recent work has already shown variety, from Benoit Blanc in the Knives Out movies to William Lee in the 2024 adaptation of Queer.
