Cyle Larin came off the bench to earn Canada a 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina in their 2026 World Cup opener in Toronto. Canada had been the better side for much of the match but fell behind when Lovo Jukic headed in a Sead Kolasinac flick midway through the first half.

Moments earlier Jonathan David had missed a gilt-edged chance, firing straight at Nikola Vasilj in a miss described in the report as shockingly poor and one that left coach Jesse Marsch visibly furious. Marsch brought on Larin with just under 15 minutes remaining and the veteran striker made an almost immediate impact, firing home from inside the area with the aid of a deflection after a first-time pass from substitute Promise David.

Larin, who spent last season on loan at Southampton, could even have won it in the dying seconds but was denied by resolute Bosnian defending. Maxime Crepeau also produced a key save in the second half to keep Canada level.
