Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Returns to Netflix This Fall

An anime from the Kill la Kill crew, based on the video game from CD Projekt Red and adapted from Mike Pondsmith’s ’80s tabletop game, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was designed in 2022 as a one-off prequel. As the animated series’ popularity began to nip at that of the source material, calls for a follow-up mounted, and fans will be able to reenter Night City on Netflix this Fall.

Handled by Studio Trigger, the original was a hyperviolent, overstimulating love story between David and Lucy, whose mercenary friends spark a heap of trouble. A sequel announced last year at Anime Expo, Edgerunners 2, will run ten episodes and follows a new roster of cybernetic outcasts, reportedly with a darker, grimier tone centered on an older, downtrodden hero nicknamed ‘Weak.’ Information about the show surfaced at this year’s Annecy animation festival in France.

The story has already branched into a spin-off manga and crossovers with Guilty Gear -Strive- and Wuthering Waves.
