Crypto billionaires bankroll Reform UK with £7 million in first quarter
Electoral Commission data released on Thursday shows Nigel Farage’s Reform UK received 7 million British pounds ($9.4 million) from two crypto billionaires this year, outstripping the first-quarter fundraising of other parties. The party took a $4 million donation from Christopher Harborne, who holds a stake in the stablecoin issuer Tether, and $5.4 million from Ben Delo, co-founder of the crypto exchange BitMEX.
Labour and the Conservatives each received around $5.4 million in the first quarter. Delo was a first-time donor to the right-wing populist party, while Harborne’s latest gift brings his contributions to $20 million over the past year. Harborne had also given Farage a $6.7 million personal gift that is the subject of a parliamentary standards inquiry over whether it should have been registered.
