Crypto-aligned PACs Pour Over $8M into Three State Primaries
Political action committees backed by cryptocurrency companies and aligned groups have spent more than $8 million to support candidates in Tuesday’s primaries across three US states, a level of outside spending that could affect the makeup of Congress in 2027. Protect Progress, an affiliate of Fairshake, reported more than $516,000 on media for April McClain Delaney in Maryland’s 6th district while concentrating much of its attention on two other races — reporting combined expenditures of more than $5.5 million and $1.4 million for Adrian Boafo and Ritchie Torres in Maryland’s 5th and New York’s 15th districts, respectively.
Filings show Protect Progress spent about $24,000 opposing Quincy Bareebe and $74,000 opposing Harry Dunn, both challengers to Boafo; on June 15 Dunn, Bareebe and Rushern Baker issued a statement opposing what they called the “influence of dark money and special interests,” asking: “Do you support nearly $8 million in outside spending from crypto billionaires and AIPAC in a Maryland Democratic primary?
