Critical Role co‑founders Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey say they have talked about creating a Marvel-style What If...? project as part of the many ideas they have to expand Exandria. Willingham has noted the company’s ventures include animated adaptations, video games and books.

The pair discussed the concept on Beacon‑exclusive talk show Fireside Chat while answering questions from Critters worldwide. Willingham confirmed the idea directly: "We have talked about that very thing in a variety of medias, so that's always a possibility," adding, "Great idea.

Great minds think alike." Marvel’s What If...? began in comics by reimagining canonical events — examples include "What If Captain America Hadn't Vanished During World War II?" and "What If Someone Else Besides Spider-Man Had Been Bitten By The Radioactive Spider?" — and the concept became an animated TV series that explored alternate takes like Peggy Carter as Captain America, T'Challa as Star‑Lord and Howard the Duck getting married.
