As AI use grows across entertainment, some creators are pushing back. In a new interview with ComicsBeat, Critical Role co-founder Sam Riegel and music producer and songwriter Peter Habib discussed AI in creative spaces and whether they would ever use it in songwriting for the animated adaptations The Legend of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein.

Habib confirmed that "In this production, there was no AI used," speaking about the song "Who Will You Be?" featured in the second episode of The Mighty Nein. He said AI is becoming a tool for music producers to formulate ideas, acting as a springboard or "almost like a third writer in the room" when a session gets stuck.

He added it was scary to see how quickly the technology is moving and its effects on the music business, noting AI-generated songs are being uploaded to Spotify every day. Riegel drew a clearer line. "I think our opinion is that it’s basically garbage," he said, noting that while some artists use AI the duo will not.
