Travis Willingham and co‑founder and executive producer Laura Bailey used a recent episode of Fireside Chat to answer fans’ questions about The Legend of Vox Machina and how the animated adaptation is made. Asked whether the team had to fight to include any scenes, Willingham pushed back on the idea that Amazon is running the show: "I think people might have the wrong idea.

We are making the show; it is us. It's not a group of writers who are taking what we did and saying, 'Oh, that's good.' We're in there, cracking everything open, throwing in surprises, adding things, doing the trims, all that stuff." He added that Critical Role pitches and shapes the story while Amazon has been supportive of their ideas.

Bailey said the one thing she did fight for was Trinket, Vex’s armored bear.
