Pearl Abyss has not yet revealed details of its Crimson Desert DLC, but PR and marketing lead Will Powers says the expansion will be "substantively different, whether it's in scope, scale, size, it'll be different." He added, "What it means beyond that, we're not talking about yet." Since its March launch the open-world game has received an almost unbelievable amount of free post‑launch content, with near‑weekly updates adding boss replays, new abilities, a full-fledged pet system with 100 fluffy friends to register, more mounts, a Pinball mini-game, a gun (yes, a gun), and more.

Powers links the rapid patch cadence to the studio's experience on MMO Black Desert, saying, "The DNA of the company is inherently live service." He observed that, despite Crimson Desert being single-player, that identity still shapes how the developers support the community.
