Creator ends 10-year Ocarina of Time remake after official Switch 2 reveal
After a decade of work, Giuseppe "CryZENx" Macula has brought his unofficial Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Unreal Engine remake to a close following the announcement of an official Switch 2 remake. The project began with videos recreating parts of the 1998 game in 2016 and grew into a fan-playable effort over the years.
On Patreon CryZENx marked the official remake news by writing, "I think I have made history with my Remake," and saying they did not want to "step" on Nintendo. They added that "the best move would be now to move forward" because "im sure nintendo will do it this time the right way." A follow-up post clarified the project has now officially "stopped." The creator says they remain keen to make more content and have asked fans for suggestions, but cautions not to expect more Ocarina of Time work.
There has been no indication Nintendo contacted CryZENx to request a halt, so the decision appears to be one of respect.
