While attention is on Total War: Warhammer 40,000, Creative Assembly is also returning to a more traditional setting with Medieval 3. The game is still early in development, but the studio has been open with the community, regularly showing it off in preproduction livestreams.

Creative Assembly is now asking fans to complete a survey about which nations, dynasties and city-states they want to control. Creative director Leif Walter says three factors guide whether a faction makes the cut: how well known it is, how unique its starting situation would be, and how distinctive its potential mechanics could be.

England, France, the Holy Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Kingdom of Jerusalem and the Sultanate of Rum are considered "locked in," while CA is seeking input on smaller medieval factions such as Italian city states like Venice or Milan, the kingdoms of Scandinavia, or Muslim nations like the Almohad Caliphate or the Fatimid Empire.
