Crazy Taxi: World Tour evolves the arcade classic

Sega’s new Crazy Taxi blends a classic arcade feel with modern design. Playing as Axel, drivers pick up fares and race to destinations in seconds, causing as much damage and chaos as needed so long as the customers are satisfied. The team expanded Axel’s repertoire with a wider set of “Crazy” moves and introduced Crazy Missions, in which customers make unusual requests like fishing or delivering huge stacks of pizzas.

A Summer Game Fest Play Days demo showed familiar moves such as Crazy Drift and Crazy Jump alongside a new Crazy Backdash that spins the taxi 180 degrees, all on a modernized recreation of the original West Coast map. The return of classic tunes helped amplify that nostalgia.

Beyond arcade thrills, the game includes a globe-trotting story mode in which Axel chases "mysterious masked villains who stole his beloved taxi," plus online multiplayer and cosmetic customizations. Sega kept many details under wraps but signaled AAA ambitions: "expect a lot of content," Kanno said.
