After months of sewing and hand-crafting fine details, having parts pop off or stitches break on the day of a convention can be heartbreaking. At MCM London Comic Con (May 22–24), a team of volunteers in the cosplay hospital stands ready with hot glue, pins, sewing needles and tape to help with exactly those mishaps.

Conventions often demand improvised repairs: friends in Genshin Impact cosplays hunched behind a stall using safety pins to patch a seam, or a Hazbin Hotel duo reapplying adhesive gemstones after glued rhinestones failed. A dedicated repair area offers a bit of space from the show floor and a calmer place to sort out problems, even if you don’t need a volunteer’s help.

As cosplays grow more elaborate and handmade, they become more susceptible to damage, and knowing someone is ready with glue, tape or sewing skills takes the edge off packing every spare.
