The power supply is one component you should not cut corners on, and Corsair's AX1600i has long been a popular choice. At Computex, Corsair showed an updated AX1600i that adds several practical changes to bring the design up to date. The revised unit replaces proprietary connectors and adapter-dependent sockets with two 12V-2x6 (12VPWR) ports, so any compatible cable can be used even though Corsair will recommend its own models.

A pin-monitoring system now reports into iCUE, and the PSU includes an iCUE Link hub and a USB Type-C port. It remains unclear whether the supply will actively throttle overheating pins, but users can enable single- or multi-rail over-current protection and receive software warnings.

Corsair has also trimmed 30 mm from the AX1600i’s length to 170 mm by using compact GaN components and the Shift PSU layout, which moves power connectors to the side. The updated model, dubbed the AX1600i Shift, should fit more mid-tower cases and better support RTX-class graphics cards that demand large amounts of power.
