When Control arrived in 2019 it fit nowhere conventional, marrying brutalist design, everyday office detritus and internet-flavored weird fiction into a distinct, cult-favorite package. Mikael Kasurinen traces that appeal to a “new weird” — the creepypasta and Backrooms era that takes the world as it is and inserts something utterly confusing — a feel embodied by the Oldest House and the Federal Bureau of Control’s uncanny artifacts and eccentric staff like Ahti.

Control Resonant moves deliberately away from that familiar stronghold. A preview of the opening act follows new protagonist Dylan Faden, Jesse’s brother, as he emerges from a fallen Oldest House into a Manhattan shredded by the Hiss.
