Tech companies and industry analysts say the RAM shortage is unlikely to ease before 2028, and some predict elevated prices for gaming consoles, PCs and other devices even through 2030. Observers have described the AI-driven memory and storage squeeze as far worse than many expected.

Micron’s earnings report helped spark the latest warnings. CEO Sanjay Mehrotra warned, “We expect tight conditions to persist beyond calendar 2027 as a result of AI-driven demand across all segments coupled with structural supply constraints,” and added that while industry supply may improve gradually in 2028, the company “currently do not have line of sight as to when memory supply will be able to catch up with increasing demand.” Lenovo’s presentation at ISC 2026 included a slide tracing recent RAM/DRAM price history and argued that new capacity will barely dent shortages given the arms race by AI hyperscalers such as Microsoft, Amazon and Google.
