Common Side Effects: First Look at Season 2

Common Side Effects is returning for a second season, and first-look images show the show's central pursuit continuing. The series’ provocative premise — what if someone finds “the last drug you’ll ever need?” — drove Season 1 and helped the show build a dedicated following; Season 2 is confirmed to premiere in 2027.

The new stills find Marshall Cuso (voiced by Dave King) and Frances Applewhite (Emily Pendergast) still on the run as they discover a way to grow the Blue Angel mushroom. That fungus, teased as a cure-all in the pilot, already demonstrated strange power when Marshall resurrected a pigeon.

Season 1 unfolded as a gripping chase that ended each of its 10 episodes on a cliffhanger, with Marshall evading the DEA, shadowy forces and a power-hungry pharmaceutical corporation. Animation and psychedelic sequences are central to the show’s identity. The mushroom’s hallucinatory effects are often shown in first-person, surreal visions; critics have called the aesthetic simultaneously off-putting and endearing.
