Come The Hell On, Overwatch

Overwatch’s next season arrives next week and, as with recent seasons, it brings a new hero: Shion, an Omnic damage hero and leader of the Hashimoto clan Mizuki belongs to. The prospect of another synthetic Omnic excited fans, since only a handful of Omnics are on the roster.

Shion looks stylish on first watch. She wields two pistols, can ride and launch a motorcycle into foes, and carries a distorted Omnic voice that reads as intimidating and a bit sultry. Still, many players have raised the same criticism that dogged Anran earlier this year — that her face feels too similar to other female characters in the game.

Her design leans toward a humanlike face with the signature Omnic dots placed on her forehead, rather than the overtly robotic, featureless look of characters like Zenyatta and Ramattra. That choice has prompted comparisons to Anran, Kiriko and Juno, though some fans have noted small differences such as her nose.
