Colman Domingo Says He Was a 'Bona Fide Nerd' in High School with Will Smith
Colman Domingo told Amy Poehler on the Good Hang podcast that he attended Overbrook High School in Philadelphia with Will Smith, who was a grade ahead. Domingo called Smith "a cool kid" and said he was friendly and well liked, noting that Smith performed with Jazzy Jeff at the Wynn Ballroom.
By contrast, Domingo described himself as "a bona fide nerd" — shy, bookish and awkward — and said he didn't change that until his second year of college. He also spoke about working with fellow Philadelphian Tina Fey, who he said approaches comedy like "a scientist" and is tender, sweet and unexpectedly touchy-feely.
Poehler recalled a "Welcome to Philly" moment on tour when they had to shut down an aggressive autograph-seeker, which Domingo called a badge of honor. Domingo appears in Steven Spielberg's Disclosure Day, which opens in U.S. theaters on June 12, 2026; the film also stars Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth and Eve Hewson.
