Clone Wars creator making Prime Video's new Conan the Barbarian cartoon
Genndy Tartakovsky is developing an animated Conan the Barbarian series for Prime Video with Cartoon Network Studios, announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Conan has a long life across media, most famously portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1982 film and its 1984 sequel.
Tartakovsky, the creator of Dexter's Laboratory, Primal, Samurai Jack and Star Wars: The Clone Wars, has been pitching an animated Conan since 2008. He credits the more recent popularity of Primal and the 2017 finale season of Samurai Jack for helping the project move forward, and he has long been a fan of Robert E.
Howard's original books. Many of his shows center on a gruff, often silent swordsman; Primal in particular resembles his take on Conan, and its first season featured no dialogue. Prime released a poster and a brief synopsis for the series.
