Clive Davis seen at charity event weeks before his death
Clive Davis was last publicly seen at the Gordon Parks Foundation Awards Dinner and Auction in New York City on May 19. He shared a table with Alicia Keys, Chance the Rapper and Swizz Beatz, and also posed with Huma Abedin and Salamishah Tillet. He wore a classic suit and tie and appeared in good spirits.
Ten days after the event he was hospitalized on May 29 for an upper respiratory infection and, out of an abundance of caution, was expected to be released 24 hours later. He died on Monday at the age of 94, his family confirmed, and no cause of death has been revealed.
Davis had been diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy in 2021, a neurological disorder that can cause partial facial paralysis; his representative said he was expected to recover within six to eight weeks with antibiotics and steroids. He began his music career in his late 20s in the 1960s, became Columbia Records president in 1967 at 35, and later founded Arista Records in 1974 and J Records in 2000.
