Citi: Tokenized securities market could reach $5.5 trillion by 2030
Citi projects the global tokenized securities market could expand from about $17 billion today to $5.5 trillion by 2030 in its base forecast, with a low-end estimate of $2.7 trillion and a bullish scenario of $8.2 trillion. Three major shifts are driving the growth.
Traditional market operators are building tokenization into trading systems: DTCC plans limited production trades in July with a broader platform launch in October; Nasdaq is developing a framework that could allow blockchain-based shares as early as 2027 and has regulatory approval to issue and trade certain stocks in digital form; Intercontinental Exchange also has plans for tokenized stocks.
The rise of trusted digital cash is another catalyst. Standard stablecoins are expected to grow to a $1.9 trillion market by 2030 and could create about $1 trillion in new demand for U.S. government bonds because issuers back digital cash with those bonds. Citi assumes 10% of the U.S.
