Chicago Fire pursue Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka
Chicago Fire are in discussions with Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka, both out of contract this summer. Lewandowski, who announced he would leave Barcelona at the end of the season, is visiting Chicago this weekend and has shown interest in the MLS move, though the Saudi Pro League has also expressed interest in the 37-year-old.
Goretzka's situation is further from resolution: he remains under contract at Bayern until the end of the month and faces interest from multiple European clubs. The club believe they can sign both players in what would be a remarkable double swoop. Whether Lewandowski is needed is debatable: manager Gregg Berhalter typically plays with one striker and Hugo Cuypers has scored 13 goals this season and will start at the MLS All-Star Game.
Transfer interest in Cuypers has been reported, while the Fire have been keen to keep him. Pursuing both arrivals would create a complicated roster puzzle under MLS rules.
