Frank Leboeuf has suggested Rayan Cherki could form an “insane” attacking partnership with Lamine Yamal at Camp Nou, saying the France midfielder’s creative instincts would suit Barcelona’s taste for entertainers. Cherki is currently starring for Manchester City, but a future switch to La Liga is not being ruled out.

Barcelona continue to find funds for marquee moves despite well-publicised financial problems and remain attractive to players with match-altering qualities; they added Anthony Gordon in the summer of 2026. The club’s history of flamboyant stars such as Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi helps explain why those opportunities are prized.

Leboeuf highlighted how Cherki might fit into the Blaugrana system, saying: “In a system that Barcelona plays, if they have Rayan Cherki on top of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, maybe a striker, and behind [Frenkie] de Jong and Pedri, that's insane.” Cherki has drawn attention in England for rabona assists, cup-final keepy-uppies and a style that often entertains.
