Charles and Camilla unlikely to live at Buckingham Palace after revamp
King Charles III and Queen Camilla are unlikely to return to live at Buckingham Palace after the royal headquarters underwent a $500,000 renovation. The couple had been scheduled to move back in March 2027 when the work finished, but Privy Purse James Chalmers said they will continue to stay at nearby Clarence House.
Buckingham Palace receives an estimated 700,000 visitors a year, and the palace plans to widen public access. "It will remain a working home but we are seeking to widen public access precisely to maximize the national benefit of a publicly funded building," a spokesperson said.
"The Palace will continue in every traditional way to be the beating heart of the Monarchy, just not its resting head." Chalmers added that Their Majesties will retain access to private rooms within the palace where they can retire during the working day and which could be used as residential accommodation in future.
