CDPR boss hopes The Witcher 4 will win back fans lost after Cyberpunk launch
CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski says some fans lost faith after Cyberpunk 2077's disastrous launch, and he hopes the studio can win them back with The Witcher 4 or whatever comes next. "I'm not 100 percent convinced we went through the full redemption arc," he said, adding that the studio "lost the faith of some people indefinitely." Nowakowski called the game's rocky start "heartbreaking." Cyberpunk 2077's initial release was marred by major technical issues, but the studio has since delivered many big updates and the Phantom Liberty expansion, and the game has surpassed 35 million sales in less than five years.
The Witcher 4 currently has no release window. In the meantime, The Witcher 3 will receive a new expansion, Songs of the Past, next year, and CD Projekt Red is also working on a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel and a mysterious new IP, Hadar. There is considerable pressure on the studio for its next launch, and the coming release will be a chance to address remaining concerns about quality.
