Castlevania: Netflix’s 94% Tomatometer Gothic Series Is a Top Game Adaptation
Netflix's animated Castlevania premiered in 2017 and ran through 2021. Based on the 1989 game Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and drawing on other entries in the series, it became an early, influential video game adaptation. Over four seasons the show averaged a 94% score on the Tomatometer.
The story unfolds in a medieval, supernatural Europe where Dracula vows revenge after his human wife is accused of witchcraft and burned. Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage), Sypha (Alejandra Reynoso) and Alucard (James Callis) form an unlikely trio who battle vampires, monsters and Dracula's army.
Their conflicts combine action with emotional weight, and the series translates the game's Gothic atmosphere and fight scenes effectively. Castlevania builds a detailed world of magic, monsters and religious conflict, exploring vampire hierarchy and a coherent magic system that suggests a much larger story beyond what appears on screen.
