Cape Fear holds 73% on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of Apple TV premiere
Cape Fear, Apple TV’s third adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s The Executioners, currently holds a 73% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 15 reviews. With a premiere date of Jun. 5, the show’s review embargo has been lifted. Early reaction skews positive, with much of the praise aimed at the cast, which includes Amy Adams, Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson.
One review said the series feels more like a modern retelling of the 1991 Scorsese film than a straight adaptation of the novel, but added that it still "stands on its own," singling out Bardem’s performance as reminiscent of his role in No Country for Old Men.
Another outlet called Bardem’s approach "the best for this version of the story." The series follows married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) as they endure a campaign of psychological revenge from Max Cady (Bardem).
