Apple TV's Remake of a Classic Martin Scorsese Thriller Releases This Week
For the first time since the 1970s — when Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore became the sitcom Alice — a Martin Scorsese film has been adapted for television. The new psychological thriller, drawing on Scorsese's 1991 movie, the novel The Executioners and the 1962 version, stars Javier Bardem and Amy Adams.
Created by Nick Antosca, Cape Fear premieres on Apple TV on June 5, 2026 and runs as a 10-episode limited series through the end of July 2026. The remake shifts the central dynamic: Bardem's Max Cady seeks revenge 17 years after being jailed, targeting Anna Bowden (Adams), her husband Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) and their children Natalie (Lily Collias) and Zack (Joe Anders).
Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg serve as executive producers. The leads are supported by Ron Perlman, CCH Pounder, Margarita Levieva, Ted Levine, Patrick Fischler, Jamie Hector, Jullian Dulce Vida, Anna Baryshnikov, Samantha Clifford and Malia Pyles. Early reaction has been positive, with a 73% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
