Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Pre-Order Ads Note It’s Not On Game Pass
After two years as a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will skip the subscription service at launch. A pre-order ad surfaced on Facebook and, as one ResetEra user wrote, "Got served the below ad randomly on Facebook." The ad touts "Lock-in campaign early access" and adds a second line that reads "Not on Xbox Game Pass this year." Microsoft announced it was pulling new annual Call of Duty releases from Game Pass in April.
The decision likely reflected that day-and-date availability drove subscriber churn, and sales of last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 were weak enough to cause concern. Bloomberg reported that including Black Ops 6 on Game Pass at launch ended up costing Microsoft around $300 million in lost revenue.
There is hope that Modern Warfare 4 returning to a traditional release will help.
