Crossovers have become common in the video game industry, with characters from one title turning up in many others. Persona 5 has been a frequent collaborator; Atlus has repeatedly licensed the Phantom Thieves for outside appearances. The latest example is a Call of Duty Mobile collaboration.

A new trailer gives a first look at realistic versions of Joker, Ann, Makoto and Sumire for the "Take Your Heart" event beginning on July 1, rendered as military-style operators rather than in Persona 5’s anime-inspired art. The results look almost doll-like and prompted discomfort among some viewers.

Call of Duty Mobile has hosted many crossovers, including characters from The Boys and Godzilla, and some fans say the abundance of out-of-place skins has become a problem. That backlash even prompted Infinity Ward, developer on the upcoming military shooter, to promise it won’t use "clowny" skins.
