Cahill backs Estevao to reach Hazard and Robben levels
Estevao has quickly become a fan favourite at Chelsea. Gary Cahill said the Brazilian youngster can reach the wing-wizard standard set by Eden Hazard and Arjen Robben, after the club signed him from Palmeiras in a deal that could eventually be worth £50 million.
Given early opportunities during a season of inconsistency, he made an immediate impact — scoring eight goals in 36 appearances before a hamstring injury ended his domestic campaign and ruled him out of World Cup selection. Cahill said supporters are often on the edge of their seats when Estevao picks up the ball, likening the excitement to past wide players such as Hazard, Pedro and Willian.
When asked if Estevao can match the likes of Hazard, Robben, Damien Duff, Willian and Joe Cole, Cahill replied “100 per cent,” adding that the youngster must keep improving, keep producing and carve out his own style. He highlighted the importance of an appetite to affect the game every match if Estevao is to reach truly world-class levels.
