Bungie made a 'Dream Daddy'-inspired Destiny dating sim, but leadership said no
Former community manager Liana Ruppert revealed that Bungie devs built a Destiny dating-sim prototype, but leadership delivered a firm 'Hard No' on romance and silliness. The project surfaced after streamer Chrizmo suggested a dating sim, and Ruppert confirmed the team had indeed made one.
Ruppert described the prototype as 'very Dream Daddy-inspired,' envisioning tongue-in-cheek romances with characters like Crow, Mara and Empress Caiatl, or even Xur, Mithrax and the Witness. A fan concept video by YouTuber 'A Wild Deathstroke' appeared in 2022, and former senior narrative designer Robert Brookes said the idea sprang from a week-long game jam—the Carnival event—where developers made playful prototypes; it was never developed into a full project, though the team pitched it annually.
Former director Christopher Barrett added that jams also produced a fighting game, a Destiny-inspired heavy metal concert, a dialogue conversation system and other experiments.
