Bungie revealed Season 2 of Marathon earlier this week, announcing a new map, a defence-focused shell, a new runner upgrade system, and a free week for players who didn’t play Season 1. The studio also published a detailed breakdown of combat tuning for Tau Ceti IV, aiming to make players’ choices feel more intentional by offering more options for preparing and engaging in fights while reining in some overly effective loadouts from Season 1.

Two weapon types are the main focus. Shotguns—especially the WSTR double-barrelled blaster, which already saw two nerfs—won’t get direct changes, but the new pistol-frame SMG KKV-9SD is designed to counter shotgun rushes with a very high fire rate. Thermal scopes are being pulled from sniper rifles after Bungie judged thermal snipers were overperforming, meaning players will rely on standard scopes for the time being while an alternative is investigated.
