Bruno Fernandes stars as Portugal beat Chile 2-1 after Leao sent off
Bruno Fernandes proved Portugal's standout player as the Seleccao secured a 2-1 friendly victory over Chile in Lisbon. The match was marred by an idiotic red card for Rafael Leao in first-half stoppage time and a largely ineffective display from captain Cristiano Ronaldo, while Lucas Cepeda pulled a late goal back for Chile.
The breakthrough came after Roberto Martinez reshuffled at half-time. Ruben Neves supplied a sublime through-ball for Goncalo Guedes, who finished smartly with the outside of his right boot. Fernandes then swept home from distance following more good work by Guedes and a lay-off from Francisco Conceicao.
Leao had been one of Portugal's liveliest threats before his dismissal for lashing out at Ivan Ramon, who was also sent off. Jose Sa was replaced by Rui Silva at the break, Ruben Neves came on and provided the assist for Guedes, and Martinez will likely be frustrated by Leao's red but encouraged that Guedes looks a useful option off the bench.
