Britton and Chandler Made a No-Affair Pact for the Taylors
Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler, who played Tami and Eric Taylor on Friday Night Lights, said they made an early pact to protect their characters' marriage from affair storylines.
"We agreed right at the outset, 'No matter what, we can't let them make either one of us have an affair,'" Britton said. "And we tried," showrunner Jason Katims interjected.
Britton added that she and Chandler pushed back on those pitches because they wanted the relationship to be about "partnership and collaboration and making mistakes and always going back to each other."
The series ran for five seasons from 2006-2011 and focused on the Taylors' family life alongside high school football. "It was going to be a regular marriage with two people who were dedicated to each other and loved one another," Chandler said. Britton summed up their approach: "We have often said that we both felt that if we fell backward, the other one would catch us."
