A private schoolboy in Brisbane allegedly planned terrorist attacks on Liberal party targets and the 2024 Labour Day march after being influenced by the Unabomber. He was 16 in 2024 when counter-terrorism police arrested him. The teenager pleaded not guilty in the Queensland supreme court and a jury of 14 was empanelled.

Prosecutors say he researched bomb-making, bought chemicals and tested explosives, using over-the-counter substances to attack premises or people associated with the Liberal party. Police allegedly found bomb ingredients in a bin at his mother’s house, and he is said to have had copies of a bomb-making guide.

He faces one charge of committing acts in preparation for or planning terrorist offences between 23 March 2024 and 29 July 2024. The court heard he communicated for months about terrorism, shared praise for Ted Kaczynski and had a copy of Kaczynski’s 35,000-word essay.
