Brighton are preparing to activate the €6 million release clause for Venezia captain Michael Svoboda after the Austrian centre-back led his team back to Serie A.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a productive campaign, making 30 appearances across all competitions while scoring three goals and providing two assists to help Venezia finish top of Serie B and secure promotion following their relegation in 2024–25.

Svoboda's exit will leave a significant gap in Giovanni Stroppa's squad; Venezia are expected to move quickly in the transfer market and are planning a wave of new signings starting next Monday to replace their departing leader.

The defender attracted interest from the Bundesliga but preferred a move to the Premier League, with Brighton's project at the Amex Stadium proving the most appealing. The Seagulls, who finished eighth and qualified for the UEFA Conference League, are eyeing further reinforcements ahead of domestic and continental commitments.
