Breel Embolo's World Cup travel uncertainty has ended after he received approval to enter the United States. The 29-year-old missed Switzerland's departure to their training camp in San Diego earlier this week but is now set to link up with team-mates ahead of the tournament.

The Swiss football federation said the striker's visa has been approved and that he is expected to arrive in San Diego on Friday evening. Embolo was unable to travel on Tuesday after his ESTA travel authorisation was placed under further review, and he remained in Switzerland while the rest of the squad flew to their pre-tournament base.

The delay followed additional checks by American authorities. Embolo attended an appointment at the U.S. Embassy in Bern as officials examined documents linked to a 2018 altercation in Basel, and U.S. authorities requested court records relating to a 2023 conviction for making multiple threats that resulted in a suspended fine and became legally binding earlier this year.
