Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn lands on Netflix Dec. 18
Brad Bird’s next animated feature, Ray Gunn, will arrive on Netflix for the holidays on Dec. 18. The filmmaker behind The Incredibles and The Iron Giant last released a feature in 2018 with The Incredibles 2, though Bird first wrote a version of Ray Gunn’s script in 1996 while at Warner Bros.
Animation. The film blends retro‑futuristic sci‑fi with classic noir — Bird called it “Maltese Falcon meets Buck Rogers.” Set in Metropia, it follows Raymond Gunn, voiced by Sam Rockwell, as he investigates a case involving aliens, murder, and a multimedia star named Venus Nova, who will be voiced by Scarlet Johansson.
Musician Tom Waits is also among the announced cast. Ray Gunn reunites Bird with former Pixar colleague John Lasseter, who is serving as a producer; Lisa Beroud, David Ellison, and Dana Goldberg are also listed as producers. The announcement noted that Lasseter left Pixar and Disney in 2018 following allegations of sexual misconduct.
